Cochlear Implant Lunch & Learn
Thank you to everyone who attended our Cochlear Implant Lunch & Learn in August! We had a blast learning about the many ways cochlear implants can help our patients thrive with better hearing.
Dr. Freeman partnered with Advanced Bionics to host this event for our patients. As audiologists, we understand that hearing helps you make powerful connections with your loved ones and the world around you. When you hearing loss is severe or complex, you may need a more advanced hearing solution, such as a cochlear implant.
How does a cochlear implant work?
A cochlear implant (CI) system has two parts. Together, they help you hear again by sending sound signals directly to your hearing nerve. The first part is placed under the skin and in your inner ear with surgery. It includes the implant and electrode array. The second part is worn outside on the ear. It includes a sound processor and a headpiece.
How are cochlear implants different from hearing aids?
Hearing aids basically make sounds louder, but for people with more hearing loss, this may not be enough to make sounds clearer or easier to understand. Cochlear implants send sound directly to the hearing nerve, where it’s sent on to the brain.
How do I know if I’m a candidate for a cochlear implant?
That’s where we come in! Schedule an appointment with Dr. Freeman to determine if you could potentially thrive with a cochlear implant. She will evaluate your needs, determine your candidacy, and guide you through the entire process.
