Science in the Service of People: My Journey to Audiology

Since October is Audiology Awareness Month, I thought I would share a little of my why as to how I chose this field as my profession.

I started college at Auburn University in engineering. Science has always been my first language, and my plan was to contribute to medical technology that would make people’s lives better.

But what I discovered was that the problems I cared most about were not on a white board. They were sitting across from me.

Audiology gave me both: science in service of a person. Every appointment starts the same way. We sit together and I listen. Really listen. Who depends on you? Where do you feel like you are showing up as less than yourself? What would change if you did not have to nod your head and take your best guess in a conversation.

I love the relentless pursuit of problem solving, getting it right. We chart the course together, toward what life looks like hearing well. There is no greater feeling in the world. I have no doubt I was designed for this. And I am beyond grateful to be part of such a transformative experience for people and their families.

So, if you have been nodding along more than you would like to admit, let’s talk. I would love to meet you and learn how Audiology can change your life too!
